AetherTime started with a specific problem: a paralegal whose firm had the machines locked down. No installs, no admin rights, no cloud tools approved. The only sanctioned answer was a shared spreadsheet, which is where billable hours go to be lost.

So the constraint became the design. AetherTime runs as a single portable executable. No registry keys, no system folders, no installer to request permission for. It runs from a USB drive, a network drive, or a cloud-synced folder — the same program either way.

What "portable" means here

• No installation. There is nothing for IT to approve. It runs from wherever you put it.
• No admin rights. A standard user account is enough.
• Works offline. No internet is required to track time, invoice, or report. It does not need to check in.
• Data stays with the drive. Your database lives beside the app, so the work travels with you and stays under your control.

Offline without being fragile

Offline usually means "no backup and no help". AetherTime keeps rotating local backups, runs an integrity check on startup with recovery, and exports to Excel and CSV so your data is never trapped. If the machine dies, the USB drive or the backup has your work.

Yes. It runs entirely offline. The only network request it ever makes is an optional update check, which you control and which never sends your task or billing data.

Is it safe on a shared or work computer?

The app writes to its own folder and does not touch the system or registry. Your database stays in that folder, so nothing is left behind on the machine beyond the drive or folder you used.
