Even allowing for the annual update decision after year one, the comparison is not close — and you are not exposed to a price increase, a redesign, or a plan change.
What you give up is automatic cloud sync and a perpetual support contract. That is the trade: you own the tool and the data, and you maintain your own backups (the app makes this easy).
On your machine. AetherTime stores everything in a local database, sends nothing to us, needs no account, and does not phone home. The only network request the app ever makes is an optional manual update check, which never sends your task or billing data.

The app keeps working. Year-one updates are included with the purchase; after that, you decide whether to extend updates. There is no forced renewal and no feature that stops working.

There are two editions now. Solo and Pro are both for one person; a shared-database license for a small team is part of AetherTime Enterprise, which is still in development.
